Rain FortWayne

Be More. Serve More.

In Tony Scelzo's blog he mentioned hitting a glass ceiling. Well my ceiling was re-enforced with three inches of concrete. I am aware that my industry (massage) has already been obscured by "bad people" doing bad things, but The places I moved back from are so much more "advanced" in their thinking. It seems Fort Wayne has this ultra conservative shell around it. I left thirty years ago, I came back and my clothes are still in style? Has anyone else had to deal with this type of setback? Is there a way to spoon feed this city into Cultural growth without scaring people to death?

Tony,

I actually sat and had coffee with Joe yesterday and we touched on the subject of why Fort Wayne seems to be missing out or just don't "get it".

We came to some rough conclusions and/or ideas on why this might be. And to do this, we compared RainFtWayne to SmallerIndiana.

1.) SI is more centrally focused on Indy. No surprise. But there are numerous cities within an hour of their events/happenings so it makes them (Indy and SI) more vibrant, more active
2.) Indy has a much greater presence of people who understand the web and "get it"
3.) Ft Wayne has a bit of an identity crisis in that they're not sure if they're a small town trying to be a big city or a big city trying to be a small town
4.) The "buddy system" still exists in Ft Wayne. If you don't know the right people and try to be part of their organization, well, you're an outsider. You're not "Bills" buddy from high school

Just my $0.02 :)

I would have to agree to some extent. I am an actual transplant from California and although i've been here for 12 years, you are sometimes looked at as an outsiderand considered in the loop or the click. My experience on a good note is that it can work to your advantage. There are people open to new ideas and the facination of a different perspective than what has been comfortable and familiar to some Fort Wayne natives. Network, network and network. Make connections! talk to everyone you meet. You never know who is in need of your services or who may know someone in need. My advice is believe in yourself. Believe in your product and what your aspirations are. You will be successful!

That's my $0.03 cents :)

Spoon feed or Beat culture and advance thinking into it. I think unfortunately like the rest of the midwest. Ft Wayne will not have a choice to start to look at the world differently.

We no longer live in a world where you can walk out of college and expect to make a living that would support a family comfortably well. When my dad went to work as an engineer? The guy on the line w/ 5 years of tenure nearly made 25% more than he did.

We need not only more knowledge working jobs, we need more entrepeneurs and result minded knowledge based workforce. The big 3 will never save the midwest.

It is time to save ourselves.
